I am an author (along with my other roles), and this is my personal website. In plain-speak, I try to minimize any collection of data that the site does about you, but there are instances where data will be collected.
How and when I collect personal information about you
It is not my intention to collect any personal information about you, however, I may incidentally collect personal information from you when you:
- contact me or request information from me such as sign up to my email distribution list and receive a copy of a book from me; or,
- visit my website.
While I do not collect or store any information about you, the server infrastructure logs certain details such as the IP address you use to browse to my site. While that information is routinely collected by my website service provider, I do not use, store, or retrieve it except in general, aggregated analysis of traffic to my site.
I do not collect, use, or share any information about minors.
What personal information I collect about you
I may collect and process personal information about you which you provide to me, such as your contact details (e.g., your name, address, or email address).
If you contact us with a complaint or query, I shall keep a record of the correspondence.
Purposes of the use of information collected
I may use your personal information for the following purposes:
- to provide you with the information and services you have requested;
- for system administration purposes to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your device;
- to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Legal basis for processing personal information collected
I will only process your personal information where I have a legal basis to do so. For example, I use Google Analytics to understand traffic to my site. Google Analytics combines your use of my site with others and provides me with aggregated data (I do not see your individual use).
It is necessary for me to handle your personal information as part of my service to you if you contact me about the site or my books.
While I collect no information from you other than what you chose to provide, I may process that information in cases where I am subject to a legal obligation and need to use your personal information in order to comply.
Where I store collected information
The personal information that I collect may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the UK and/or European Economic Area (the “EEA”), including countries, which have less strict, or no data protection laws, when compared to those in Europe and the UK.
As of the date of this privacy policy, the website is housed in a Google datacenters and its content is distributed throughout the world.
How I keep your personal information
I take steps to ensure that the personal information that you provide is retained for only as long as it is necessary and then deleted. For example, I may keep a record of any correspondence with you to answer your inquiry or address the concern.
An exception to this policy is if you request to enforce your privacy rights, I will retain a copy of your complaint(s) and my response(s).
Security
I maintain reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, alteration, or unintentional destruction. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. As a result, I cannot guarantee the security of your information as it is transmitted to me.
Disclosing personal information
I may disclose your personal information to the following categories of third parties:
- with persons that I hire for specific tasks (to the extent that such sharing is necessary for them to perform their work);
- if all or a majority of my assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal information held by me about visitors to my website will be one of the transferred assets;
- with authorities or similar third parties requesting mandatory disclosure in compliance with applicable law; or
- with other companies and organizations for the purposes of fraud protection, to protect my rights, property, safety or that of my users, or others.
Cookies and similar technologies
I do not use cookies on my site, but I do use web beacons and/or similar technologies to understand and enhance online experience on the site.
Cookies are small text files placed in your browser. Web beacons are small strings of code that provide a method for delivering a graphic image on a webpage for the purpose of transferring data, such as the IP address of the device that downloaded the page on which the web beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the web beacon appears, the time the page containing the web beacon was viewed, the type of browser that fetched the web beacon, and the identification number of any cookie on the device previously placed by that server.

Given the divergent practices of organizations that offer browsers and the lack of a standard in the marketplace, the site does not respond to DNT signals at this time.

California Residents
California law requires that I describe the personal information that I have collected about California consumers in the past 12 months, by identifying specific categories of personal information. Please see above for how Google Analytics are used and how you can block its technology.
California law also mandates that I specify certain disclosures regarding any sale of data. I do not collect or sell personal information. In the past 12 months, I disclosed information about the traffic and use of to the Google Analytics Platform.
